Deep foundations

Drilled shafts, piles, micropiles and inclusions with our own machinery, tools and personnel. Twenty-two projects between 2021 and 2026, with figures and photographic records.

Ecko Terra Construcción

The group's deep foundation work is carried out under the Ecko Terra Construcción® brand, using our own machinery, tools and personnel. We do not depend on rentals or third parties to start a project, which determines the schedules we can commit to.

What we build

Systems and procedures

Each system includes its procedure, the soil layer where it is used and the project where we applied it. Select one to see the details.

01Cast-in-place drilled shafts

Drilling to the design diameter and founding depth, lowering the reinforcement cage and placing concrete through a tremie pipe. Our completed projects have used diameters from 0.40 to 3.00 m and depths of up to 25 m, in Type I and II soils and Type III soils with cobbles and resistance above 50 blows. The borehole is opened in stages using augers, buckets, core barrels and clay buckets of different diameters to suit the layers encountered.

02Driven piles and sheet piles

Driving concrete piles, steel sections and sheet piles. Depending on the soil layer and the vibration that adjacent properties can tolerate, we use an ICE 812 or APE 200-6/700 vibratory driver, or a Mitsubishi M-25 or M-15 pile hammer, supported by a Link Belt, P&H or Lorain crane. Piles are designed for end bearing or shaft friction, as determined by each project's geotechnical study.

03Contiguous and secant piles

Drilled piles installed in a continuous sequence to form a retaining wall. This solution supports adjacent properties or excavation walls before basement excavation, particularly on urban sites with limited space. It uses the same drilling rig, with no additional equipment.

04Slurry and polymer stabilization

When a borehole cannot remain stable on its own, we stabilize it with slurry. We set up the plant on site: mixing and return tanks, pumps and recirculation, with density and viscosity controls. At Puente Garcés, we used bentonite within the excavation at the foot of the existing bridge; at La Pitahaya, we used polymer in a river channel with water-level control.

05Temporary and permanent steel casings

For layers that slurry cannot support: gravel and sand with cobbles. Temporary casing is driven and recovered as concrete placement progresses; permanent casing remains part of the element. At La Pitahaya, we drove 1.60 and 2.10 m casings with a vibratory driver, lifted by crane, and supplied polymer inside them.

06Micropiles and inclusions

Smaller-diameter elements for underpinning, strengthening existing foundations and improving soft soils. They are used where large equipment cannot enter or where the existing structure does not permit the operations required for a large-diameter drilled shaft.

07Reinforcement fabrication and lifting

Fabrication, assembly and lifting of reinforcement for drilled shafts and pile caps, assembled on site. At Pilas Tamazunchale, long reinforcement cages were lifted beside the road; at Pilotes Ejido La Pitahaya, a crane assisted with lifting and lowering the cages.
